Canada and the First World War - We Were There - Georges Vanier

Enlisting as an officer in 1914, Georges Philéas Vanier joined the ranks of the 22nd Battalion in 1915. Gradually rising through the ranks, he earned decorations for bravery and briefly commanded a battalion. After the war, he had a brilliant military and diplomatic career, culminating in his appointment in 1959 as Governor General. Includes excerpts from his personal diary, which he kept during the war.
