Caption: Officer's epaulette, Argenteuil Militia, Lower Canada, circa 1813

The county of Argenteuil covered a vast area dotted with small settlements on the eastern side of the Ottawa River going from north of Montreal to past present-day Gatineau and Ottawa. Its militia officers had scarlet uniforms faced with black velvet and trimmed with gold buttons and lace. (Musée d'Argenteuil, Carillon, QC)
